What is biosynthesis?

Biosynthesis ('integration of life') works with processes of self-development which demand organic growth, personal development and spiritual integrity. The goal of this work is to connect the three fundamental areas of our humanness: somatic (bodily) existence, psychological experience and spiritual essence.

Working with the body, we rely upon embryological principles. We try to integrate breathing pattern, muscle tone and the expression of feelings, and to allow them to flow harmoniously as a whole. The method of biosynthesis is oriented toward organic growth and works with movements such as the wave form of rhythmic breathing.

Working with the psyche, we connect feeling, thinking and acting, the three most important formative fields, with one another. They interact continuously and also influence unceasingly the dynamic flow of bodily forms. Biosynthesis liberates the human potential which has been hidden within trauma, supports somatic resonance, and strengthens our presence in interpersonal relations.

The spiritual foundation of biosynthesis emphasizes the central aspect of compassion, for oneself as well as for others. It is based on the insight that the qualities of our essence must be grounded in everyday reality. A process-oriented path of development, biosynthesis acknowledges the uniqueness of the individual and fosters his or her broad spectrum of developmental possibilities.

In the framework of our somatic, deep-psychological, and transpersonal understanding, we seek to be responsive to the client without interpreting or prescribing norms as to what and how that person should be.

Biosynthesis comprises ten primary areas of focus, as well as the theories, methods and practices corresponding to each of these issues. These are: centering, examining, grounding, holding, connecting, restricting, charging, sounding, forming, and paying attention.

I received my training as a biosynthesis-therapist between the years 1990 and 1996.

This method, developed by David and Sylvia Specht-Boadella, is recognized and taught as a somatic/deep-psychological therapy in many countries.

The research and training center, IIBS, is located in Heiden/Appenzell, Switzerland.
